Project Information
Project name
C-SHIFT
Project full name
Coastal SST High-resolution Inference From Shipboard Transects
Disciplines (P08)
Summary incl. objectives
C‑SHIFT will leverage the NORSOOP Ships‑of‑Opportunity to collect continuous FerryBox SST and hyperspectral radiometry along Color Line ferry routes (MS Color Hybrid: Strömstad–Sandefjord; MS Color Fantasy: Oslo–Kiel) for 12 months (remote access continuous). Led by Pierre DeWit (University of Gothenburg), the project will build a calibrated ground‑truth dataset to train and validate machine‑learning downscaling of satellite SST from ~1–4 km to ~100 m in embayments around Strömstad. Outputs—QC’d along‑track data and daily 100 m SST mosaics with uncertainties—will enable localized marine heatwave detection and improve coastal risk assessments. Through AQUARIUS TA, results, data, and code will be openly released and integrated with an international Sweeden-Japan collaboration within MIRAI, to deliver actionable intelligence for aquaculture, marine park management, and municipal adaptation, plus public‑facing web maps.
